How booking gear on Rentouri works
You book gear from a local rental shop online and collect it at the shop. Here is each step, and what happens to your money at each one.
- 01
Choose the model and size
Search by place and dates. A shop's page lists its own gear, model by model, in the sizes still free for your dates, with the shop's price for those dates. You pick the model and size yourself.
Before you book, you see the full price, the shop's cancellation policy and the deposit you will leave at pickup.
Payment: You pay the shop's own price. Rentouri adds no booking fee.
- 02
Sign the agreement and book
You sign the shop's rental agreement online, accept its cancellation policy and confirm your card. The model you chose is then set aside in your size for your dates, and the confirmation email brings the signed agreement and a QR code for pickup.
Some shops confirm each booking themselves. They answer within 24 hours. If they decline or don't answer in time, you aren't charged and any hold on your card is released.
- 03
When your card is charged
It depends on the shop's cancellation policy. The checkout shows the dates and the amount before you book.
- If the shop offers free cancellation and you book before it ends, nothing is charged when you book. Your card is saved with Stripe, the price is held on it 4 days before free cancellation ends (straight away if you book later than that), and the held amount is charged when free cancellation ends. We email you a reminder 3 days before the hold.
- If the shop's policy has no free cancellation, or free cancellation has already ended when you book, you pay the full price when you book.
Payment: You always pay in the shop's currency, euro or złoty. If you browse in another currency, converted prices are approximate, and your bank does the conversion.
- 04
Pick up the gear
Show the QR code at the shop. The staff scan the gear to your booking and hand you the model and size you booked. The shop can't swap it for other gear without your agreement.
About 30 to 90 minutes later, if you still have the gear, we email you the shop's photos of it, if it took any, with a link to add your own. You can add photos for 24 hours after pickup. They record any damage that was already there when you got the gear.
Payment: The shop may ask for a refundable deposit, up to the amount shown when you booked. You pay it at the shop, in cash or by card on the shop's own terminal. Nothing is held on your card online for it.
- 05
Return the gear
Bring the gear back to the shop by the end of your rental. You get an email confirming the return, which also says whether your deposit was returned.
Payment: If the gear comes back without damage beyond normal wear, the shop returns your deposit. It can keep part or all of it only for damage or loss caused through your fault, at the documented cost of repair, or the gear's current value if repair is impossible or uneconomic. Damage has to be reported within 24 hours of the return, with a photo, and there have to be photos of the gear from pickup, the shop's or yours. You get the shop's report by email.
- 06
After the rental
Within 24 hours of the return, the shop can ask you to pay for damage reported this way, or for a late return if its rental agreement sets a charge for one. We email you the request with each item, the amount and how it was worked out.
You decide what to do: pay it on the request page, pay the shop another way it accepts, or refuse. Your card is never charged for damage or a late return unless you pay the request yourself, and a request you don't answer closes after 7 days. Refusing doesn't end the shop's claim, which it can pursue in other ways.
Once the rental is over, you can review the shop. Only guests who rented from a shop can review it.
